I'm Back on the Boards!

DH and I are now settling into our new home. We just got the Internet today. We had to go through the cable company because DSL isn't available in Goose Creek. It's really good to be back online. It seems a lot longer than just a couple of weeks since I've been here.

The past couple of weeks have been rough. We went up to MI to be with DH's family and that was difficult at times. DH and I are homebodies, while his family is go, go, go. We do enjoy going out to places, but not every single day. And I value my alone time and that's an unknown concept to his family. His mother and brother came back to SC with us to help us move. That was a very stressful time, one that I'm in no hurry to repeat any time soon. My MIL and BIL went back to MI on Saturday. The original plan was for us to take them as TN so that they could make sure that they got on I-75, which would take them all the way to MI. But we were having problems with our phone so we had to have a guy from AT&T come over on Saturday, so we didn't go up to TN. Neither DH nor I wanted to make the trip anyway.

We went to my mother's house on Sunday and brought our cats with us on Monday. We've had some minor problems here at the house. The previous tenants didn't bother cleaning before they moved out. They left a pot of refried beans in the oven. I had to scrub the kitchen floor twice to get it clean. There was mold and mildew in the freezer. I'm slowly trying to get the house in order, but it's going to take some time before the place feels like home.

Welcome back Nancy,
Does seem like forever you've been gone
Thank goodness for cable/internet now :)

Sure does sound like some difficult times.
Understand on the homebodies & others that aren't.
Way too much going/doing.
Glad that is over too for you both.
Sounds like the phone problems worked in your favor

Oh no I can't believe the tenants didn't clean::gasp::
Couldn't the landlord have seen to that?
That's terrible to hear :(

Hopefully/eventually all this will get done,
Life settles down & you really get to enjoy your new place :)

I'm glad you're back online and that your move went fairly smoothly.

I've never understood people who move out of a place and leave it a mess. Don't they have anymore respect (for themselves or others) than that?!

I hope you get things cleaned up, unpacked and feeling like home soon!

Sishon, I've missed you! I hope all your quirks work out, I know moving is always rough. When I inherited my home, I said, I am never moving again, and someday, I will remodel it, and someday has come, as we are still working. I was lucky to have a paid off home, just not under the circumstances.

Anyway, I cannot believe that there was a pot of BEANS!! WHAT? Who does that? That is just so odd. I've heard a lot of moving stories, but that's defiantly gone to the top of my odd list!! I get what your saying about liking your alone time. I am home all day, while Beau is at work, and I value doing my yoga at least twice a day, the computer, things like that. That's why I understand, when he goes to his man cave for an hour or so when he gets home from work. Good you got to see family, though!!

I'm glad your getting settled. I know that's hard. When my Husband and I decided that he was going to move in, that was tough!! I had lived alone for a long time, and we are both only children, so you can imagine! Which is why I have an extra room, that is like a closet, or a relax room, which opens with french doors to the front porch, which will be an office space for me, but right now we still have wedding gifts, and boxes there! So, I got that, and Beau got the basement. Which we use for party's, there is a separate door, and even though he doesn't drink, and I hardly do, we built a bar. It's nice for entertaining. It's also nice that the upstairs doesn't get messy.

I'm just really glad your back, and I hope you don't find anymore hidden beans! LOL! I'm glad you seem really happy. Settling in takes a while. I think it's taken us longer because of all the wedding, and remodeling. Don't get discouraged. I do sometimes, and that only delays things. There have been a couple times I have gotten overwhelmed, and just shut down. So just take one task at a time, and it'll go great, I'll keep you in my thoughts. I'm so happy for you!!!

Tons of Hugs!!!

I know what you mean about taking my time in getting my house in order, because it can easily overwhelm me. I'm trying to take it in baby steps, doing a little bit every day. DH keeps having to put off mowing the lawn because of the heat (the heat index was 110 degrees today) or because we keep having storms.

What I like about my kitchen is that it has a very long counter space, so I've designated half of it for my cooking preparations and the other half is going to be where I do my beading. And if I move around some chairs in the living room then I have room to do my belly dancing. We still have a lot of boxes on the front porch that we need to take down to the dump. The front porch is enclosed with screen, but also for some odd reason, the former tenants put glass windows all around the top of the porch. It looks really tacky and it impedes with the air flow. We have to fix the holes in the screen and we're also going to remove all the glass windows. We're going to be here for several years while DH goes to school, so I really want to make this my home and my sanctuary.

I know what you mean. Our back porch is a three season porch, but the front porch is fully enclosed, with air, and heat. More of a room. I'm glad you have some area's of your own. I do a bit of belly dancing myself! I'm not serious about it or anything, but I do it from OnDemand, and I really love it! It goes with my yoga well.

It's been really hot here too, I can't stand it!! I'm glad your taking things slow, it's so easy to get really overwhelmed. It sounds like the tenants before you were odd!

Much Luck!!
