Welcome to the board!

I haven't had children so I'm not speaking from firsthand experience but having talked to my sister and friends about their experiences, I think what you describe is normal.

There are different things that might trigger that response but it can definitely be bittersweet to leave a certain stage of mothering or child development. Sometimes that seems strange because the stage itself is exhausting or frustrating but knowing that it will "never be again" can be emotional.

I have 2 small children - my youngest is 17 mos old. We are definitely not having anymore children. So I'm basically in the exact same situation your wife is in :)

I definitely get sad thinking about not having another child. We have 2 boys so for me, it really hits when I see cute "girly" things. What helps me, is the thought that *maybe* if our circumstances change in the future, we may adopt a little girl. We probably won't. But just the thought that the door isn't COMPLETLEY closed helps to make me feel better.

As to the foreplay question, I've never been interested in DH giving attention to that area of my body. So I don't have any problems with that bringing up any sad thoughts.

Good luck,

Dee
