Wow, Carol! It sounds like you totally did the right thing. You were definitely observant to realize that something unusual was going on.

Even with the house being empty, a lot of damage can be done. My parents' house was vandalized while it was vacant; glass ground into the carpets, holes in the walls, etc.

I've also heard of vandals getting into vacant houses and turning on water faucets to cause flooding.

Thanks, RoseAnn - when I gave my statement, the detective asked what made me suspicious. I told him I didn't know, on another day I might've not given it a second glance, but in that moment, something just struck me wrong. Gut instinct, I guess.

BTW - I meant empty as in no one was home. That house is a front-half duplex. The people who live in front were out of town (it's their driveway under my window). The owner of the property

You did great in following your instinct & calling the police.
No telling what damge could have been done.
