No, I definitely think as a NEW employee that you have every right to ask basic questions. Until you get the lay of the land it would be difficult to interpret an employee manual. So many times things are written ambiguous on purpose - to allow flexibility for management. You would have no way of knowing management's intentions as a new employee.

I was saying that it is easier for her to just put you off and not bother to give you the attention/direct you deserve in the beginning. If she did, it would actually be better in the long run as you learn things. But ppl are too lazy these days to "invest" that time and energy it seems. It's really quite sad to me.

Like I said, I suspect she's just mad bc she doesn't want to deal with it. You are very right of course - a FAQs would be a great idea. But of course, then it would be in writing and they can't easily change their minds in the future. It would be policy. So writing "see company" leaves the decision open...
