Valentine's Day....Not just another commercial Holiday?

Hello all......I know Valentine's Day was basically created as a commercial tool to make money off of our Love for "That Special Someone" but to me it is still a special day to show your Spouse/Lover/Significant Other just how much you Love & Appreciate them........So count me as one who Falls for the Hearts & Candy, but also knows it's important to show that Love extra special on Feb. 14th & then continuing on for the other 364 days.....I know it's Sappy, but it makes me Happy! (not to mention, that makes a cute little rhyme!)Smile

I know so many couples  where the husband only shows love on Valentines day and that just makes me shun the date.

I agree with you Misstrygg. To me, Valentine's Day just seems like an obligation. As a teen/young adult, it was a novelty I bought into, but not anymore. I think it's wonderful if some couples get into it, but my husband and I don't.

Amen to that Misstrygg!......If you can't show your love all year round then Valentine's day won't mean a thing to you......

Thank you for the welcome RoseAnn, I'm with you on the weekend before or after V-Day for dinner with my BW (married 14 years) We do still do cards (I'm sappy with things like that) & of course it's a great excuse to buy chocolate (to share of course).......Hope you find one of your favorite pairs of Valentines socks (I only have one pair)......Nice chatting, Cris

I rather do it on any other day, then have a reminder.  Both me and my husband says if you need a reminder  ie a date to show love, then  love doesnt come natural.

So we celebrate our love when we feel like it, whole year around.

Welcome to the board!

I agree with you that it's possible to consider Valentine's Day a special occasion without buying into all the commercial hype of it.

DH and I (married 16 years, BTW) don't do cards or gifts on Valentine's Day. We usually go out for dinner but NOT on the day of. We've found that restaurants capitalize by putting in extra tables and, as a result, service goes downhill. Instead, we usually go the weekend before or after.

You've reminded me that I need to find my many pairs of Valentine's socks and figure out which ones to wear February 14. ;)
