Well, we have reached the point where I need to decide what name to use after we get married.

I can't and would want to give you advice on this.

The choices we make in thought, word and deed inevitably return to us in kind.

Due to my DD's young age at the time, I hyphenated. Yes, a total pain but I basically used the hyphenated version only when it involved anything to do with my DD, which meant school, doctor's visits, DD's activities (gymnastics, etc.). When it came to everything else, I would just write down my DH's last name. I

It's funny how people look at things. Your fiance probably thinks he is just making it easy for you to do what you want. When I got married for the 2nd time, my 2nd DH practically insisted that I change my name to his since he felt that keeping my 1st DH's name meant I was somehow still connected to him. He wouldn't have minded if I had my maiden name. So I changed it legally even though I didn't want to since I had a professional career for over 20 yrs w/ the 1st DH's name. In fact, I never used my 2nd DH's name at work, which ended up causing some confusion because I was using 2 names at diff. times. So when I got div from 2nd DH, I went back to 1st DH's name. When he saw the paperwork, he was like "why don't you go back to your maiden name?" Duh! He just didn't get it--I hadn't used my maiden name in so long that would just cause added confusion. It was easy to change my driver's license & social security card, but I still have credit cards in 2nd DH's name almost a year later.

First I have to say I find it interesting that some posters have asked their children what they think?

I am usually VERY aware of adult vs kids decisions so to speak however, in this instance I felt it would have a big impact on my youngest.
