I don't think a gift is really necessary. It would be nice to write him a letter inside the card that tells him how much you enjoy his company and how much you appreciate him. How about making a nice picnic

How about leaving him little notes/directions for when he gets home...assuming he leaves for work or something like that...for example the first note upon arriving home could say something like.."I want you to know how much I really care about you, how much I appreciate all the things you do for me - (be specific), so now it's time to show you...take your shoes off and head for the bathroom"

I was going to suggest something along these lines too. I think this is always a great idea for someone who's "short on cash". Remember, it's not about how much money you spend, it's the reason/idea behind it all.

Something I do for my DH that he loves is that I often call the mobile car wash guy to detail my DH's truck while he's at work, or I take his boots and shoes to be shined.

Yea, definately don't do anything you really can't afford. I agree that the little things can be the most romantic.

My SO is NOT the romantic type, but the good thing is he also doesn't expect me to be, and when he does do something, it is even more thoughtful because I am not expecting it.

Make no mistake, I would not turn down jewlery or vacations, but I do think that generally speaking, we do have to watch out for expectations. I think a man who LISTENS, and remembers a month later that you had said "I have always wanted to try one of these," is romantic in my book. :)
