We are finally talking marriage!

Well, there is no romantic proposal story to really share, but to make the story short: a birthday ring has turned into an engagement ring.

I always knew that eventually the day would come that we would "just know" and the day finally came.  He did take the lead on this one, as last week it was "one of these days" and yesterday it was "I was wondering...."  I said "yes, if you are simply wondering if, the answer is yes"

Then we just turned to our normal joking and bantering on the subject of marriage.  He jokes it is the only way to get me to change my last name.  And yes, I will change my last name.

My DD13 is not thrilled, but already asking me colors I like for the wedding and who the bridesmaids will be.  I told her what ever we do will be small, but I would love to hear her ideas.  So, her only requirement is that she helps me plan a wedding.  Too cute!

Well, lunch time here and I have to go.  I hope this spices up the board!

Yes it did.  nice to hear some exciting news.  I guess when you have been living together a while the "proposal" isn't as big a deal but it's good to reach that place where you know it's the right step.

Ahhh...congratulations!  Glad to hear you're going to have at least a small wedding and are including your daughter.  That should help.  She won't be able to help but get somewhat excited after a while, right?  I did have a romantic proposal after dh and I had been dating a year.  I basically turned him down.  The second proposal went like this a week before we closed on the condo we were buying together; dh "I always said I'd never mix money and assets with a woman I wasn't married to."  Me - "So...what are you saying...we should get married?"  Dh - "I guess so."  Me - "Ok".  Oh...he also included something about my lousy health insurance and how if something happened to me medically (he mentioned something about my age) , it could put us in serious financial trouble.   Nice, huh??  lol

I have a co-worker who is getting married for the FIRST time next month at age 55!  She and her fiance are going to Vegas to do it and her family members are throwing a reception for them when they get back.  She told me the other day that dh and I should have had a "real" wedding.  (We got married by a JOP in a mall because the courthouse had been flooded.)  Anyway, it got me thinking about my wedding day and I told dh what my co-worker said and he said, "Yea...our wedding day sucked."  What I remember most was his DS20 calling us as SOON as we got in the car after getting married asking his father to drive the 2 hours to where he was to get him as he got kicked out of rehab for doing drugs on the inside.  Pathetic.  Dh and his father were on the outs along with my DD25 and me (I didn't even tell her I was getting married because all my DDs hated dh anyway, but I did tell the other ones.)  We threw ourselves a reception a few months later as no family members did anything for us.  Noone sent cards, nothing.  I was really disappointed in my 2 brothers.  Never even got a phone call saying "congratulatons".

Sorry to have rambled.  I'm really happy for you and can't wait to hear updates of your wedding.  :)

I had to laugh cause right next to  your post in the sidebar was an ad for a movie called The Big Wedding.  So sad that your wedding day was very unromantic but with your kids not liking your DH and his kids w/ all their problems, it probably wouldn't have been good to have an actual wedding inviting the families.  Maybe you can go on a nice romantic trip for your anniversary some time.

Thanks everyone!  Probably won't post too many details, but I will say we are going on a destination wedding/honeymoon with just the two of us.

I am very excited!
