Oh the wonderful world of LDR/Online Relationships...I'd hoped I'd be one of the romantic stories on this board, but unfortunately, I'll be back on "The Dating Game" discussion board. LOL

I thought I'd finally met a terrific guy, who seemed to have many of the qualities I'd hoped to find in a potential manperson.

I'm just so glad that you found out before something horrible happened to you.

I'm supposed to go to Hawaii in May to visit friends-he's going to be there for his stepdaughter's graduation and we were going to meet for the week.

Dawn,

I'm so sorry things didn't work out as you'd hoped, but I'm very glad you were able to realize what kind of person he is before things got even more serious and committed. Despite all the unhappy endings we hear on this board, part of me still likes to believe that at least some of these guys are more lost than losers. Maybe he's just a deceptive creep, but maybe he's also really trying to or wishing he could be the person he wanted you to see. I hope it's possible that, underneath it all, he really may be closer to the guy you thought he was, but it sounds like he really needs to face and deal with some things before he can actually be that person -- instead of just pretending to be that person.

I think you're wise to move on because you win no matter what happens. If you find another special person who really is what you're looking for, you win. And if he realizes you really are the person he can't let go of without a lifetime of regrets and really deals with his issues in order to become a man more deserving of your time, and if you decide he's worth another chance, you also win (hopefully).

In any case, I hope you stick around the board. We definitely don't banish people just because they are no longer actually dating a military man. We like to keep our boardies no matter what!

You are such an outstanding woman! Way to stick up for yourself. There are creeps out there who really want a weak woman they can monopolize, but you are not one. I'm proud of you for sticking to your guns and not giving into his lies!!!
