Hi, Kim. I'm Melanie, and my husband, Tom, is active-duty Army. Your boyfriend is correct when he states that the Air Force is very different from the Army. Not only that, but reserves are generally very different from active duty. Though I can't attest to the validity of exactly how your boyfriend states the Army and the AFR are different, I can say that Air Force deployments are generally much shorter than Army deployments and that most I have been privy to have been for 4 months (versus 12 to 15 months for the Army). The best advice I can give you at this point is to not look too far ahead. Right now, you don't if/when you'll be separated any more than his training. It's likely you will be, but until it's upon you, don't borrow trouble. After all, worrying about it all won't change it. Just take it one day at a time and keep busy.

Hey Kim

My boyfriend Scott has been in USAF for two years not and he gets out in 2011. He leaves this Thursday for his first deployment. We have been best friends for about years and then have been together for 10 months now. He does not plan on renlisting but I am trying to talk him in to it for future reasons. But I understand your emotions I myself are in the same situation.. I wont see mine until Feb. of next year and God knows when I will be able to talk to him over there but we have to stay strong and support them with every thing we have. They miss us as much as we miss them. Hopefully you don't get as bad as I did.. I got put on antidepressants and anxiety meds just last week because all of the stress and worrying.. See I don't get to see my boyfriend that much cause he is stationed 3 hours away.. But if your both in love and happy then everything will be worth it in the end. I promise everything will be okay.. I just have to hold my head up high and be proud that my boyfriend is protecting our freedom so we can all have a better life :]
