The DMM fitness and health challenge will start on Monday, September 28 and end on Monday, December 7. (That's 10 weeks, and we'll do another one after the holidays if people are interested.) Please sign up by midnight on Thursday, September 24 if you want to participate in team challenges. (I'd give you until Friday, but I won't have time to set things up on Saturday or Sunday.) You can sign up until midnight on Sunday if you only want to participate individually.

The categories/events are as follows:
1. Distance
~ Based upon distance walked/ran over the course of the challenge.

2. Workouts
~ Based upon number of workouts 10 minutes or longer over the course of the challenge.

3. Weekly Goal
~ You will set a personal goal that you will strive for daily. It should be something you struggle with a little and need to change, and it can be ANYTHING related to your health and fitness, so it can be as simple as "Brush my teeth every night before bed" (because you always forget) or as complex as "Meet a target range of calories, carbs, and proteins each day." Progress will be reported as "I met the goal x days this week."

4. Weight Loss
~ This is not a mandatory event even for individual participants. You can give me numbers if you want to, but it's not necessary. If you don't want to reveal the number on the scale, you can simply check in weekly with the percentage of your total body weight lost that week as well as the percentage lost cumulatively.

All progress will be reported weekly via a check-in thread. Categories 1-2 will be ran both individually and as teams. Categories 3-4 are individual only. I will work on getting us participant blinkies and reward blinkies (including a blinkie for the DMM fitness queen -- our overall winner).

What would you like to achieve during the fitness challenge?
~ I want to use the time Tom is away to do something positive for myself. I'm hoping to shed a few pounds and firmly develop my habits of working out and eating right so I don't fall back into old habits once he's home and I'm dealing with the stress of moving.

What would you like to achieve during the fitness challenge?
~ I want to develop a routine I can stick to, and change my diet a bit. I know I feel a lot less stressed when I'm able to do something for myself, and I'll need that stress relief this year! I want to lose a few pounds, but more importantly, tone up my tummy and arms a bit. It's perfect timing for my wedding! :)

I would like to get into a routine of doing some kind of "working out". I also would like to fit back into my pre-pregnancy jeans at least.... So that would be one size down...

I would like to rehab this ankle of mine while trying to get my endurance back up. I also would like to run a half marathon and beat my PR.

What would you like to achieve during the fitness challenge?
I would like to lose five pounds and get back into running again. Right now I am doing a yoga video daily, but I would like to run at least twice a week as well. I would also like to work out on day with weights to tone up!
Also, I quit smoking 3 years ago but my bf smokes and I've slowly started smoking again on the weekends. I'd like to take back my non-smoking status!

Tru wants me to do some running with him once we're together in Texas... if I'm going to be even half capable of doing that I've gotta get in the habit of running! toning up my belly some would be great, too

What would you like to achieve during the fitness challenge? This is going to sound kind of silly, but in the health zone i would really like to remember to floss everyday! I am good at brushing and mouth washing, but i find flossing such a waste of time. However, it's good for your gums and i once heard (on Oprah, so don't quote me) that flossing daily adds 3 years to your life b/c it increases circulation and rids your mouth of bad bacteria. On top of that, since i haven't exercised regularly in an embarrassing amount of time, i'd like to do something/anything that increases my heart rate at least 3 times a week. I need to get back in shape, but since i lack motivation, i'll do baby steps :)
