I haven't been around much over the last couple weeks thanks to the end of the school year, our vacation, and now VBS this week.
Our Outer Banks, NC beach vacation was positively awesome! (you can see our pics at: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/album.php?aid=193383&id=568476968) We stayed someplace new this year so I was a little nervous how it would work. But it was incredible. Our walk to the beach consisted of crossing the street and going up over the dune. That's it!!!! The ocean views from our top deck and crow's nest were awesome.
Even though our weather was really hot, especially at the beginning of the week, it was beautiful. Our daily routine consisted of breakfast, pool, beach, lunch, pool, beach, dinner, pool, bed. We took about 2 hours one morning to souvenir shop with the kids and we did mini-golf the last night we were there. The pool/hot tub was right off the side deck, so the older boys could swim whenever they wanted.
If you remember, there was the drama of getting my nephew to my brother in time for his races Friday night. So we left the OBX bright and early Fri AM and met with bro in DC around lunchtime. This of course didn't happen without brother moaning, groaning, cursing, and acting put out by having to meet us but WHATEVER!!!
We stayed in DC overnight which was enough in that heat! Friday afternoon we checked into the hotel and headed for the Air & Space Museum. Thanks to extended hours, we pretty much covered the entire thing. After that we headed to the memorials. We parked and walked the Vietnam Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Reflecting Pool, and new WW2 Memorial. Everything was lit up and it was finally cooling off. Very pretty!
Saturday morning, we chose to go to the National Zoo mainly to see the pandas. The high was supposed to be 88. After about 3 hours, walking mostly uphill, seeing nothing but the lower half of a hot, lounging panda, and wanting to melt into the asphalt, we headed back to the car. That's when we discovered it was actually 97 degrees not the measly 88 they were calling for! UGH!
It was definitely time to get home to our a/c and cooler temps but it was a wonderful trip. Anyone want to buy a beach house with me???
