I'm new to Wiesbaden, Germany.
That is great that you two might get to meet up! I heard back from my cousin. I'm going to copy and paste her response here:
The best resource would be at Army Community Services. They almost always have newcomers orientations with tours and local information. Within ACS, there's a new parent support program that might run a play group for kids under 5. If she's new to the military, she could take a few "intro to the Army" classes through Army Family Team Building. Outside of ACS, the Morale Welfare and Recreation office usually runs a travel office with organized tours and local travel info. We were about 1 hour north of Wiesbaden. She is close to Frankfurt, and there's a fabulous Christmas market there, among many other things. She is also within an hour's drive of Heidelberg. That's a beautiful city with a castle and a gorgeous old city district. I hope this helps. We had a blast in Germany, but it did take a while to get acclimated. One last note...many organizations on post offer free childcare at the on-post daycare facility for volunteers. That's a great way to get to know people and the community, as long as she's comfortable leaving her kids in the daycare. If it's any help to her, we have always had good experiences with it.
