For those who have left the service, how hard was it for you or your husband to find a job?  I'm expecting the job hunt to be slow going.  Any tips, resources, and advice would be appreciated.  TIA!

My dh sent out a TON of resumes when he retired. He followed all the tips in the resume guides when it talked about following up. His best advice, start sending out resumes early (about 30-45 days before discharge). Do not tie yourself into one location. You cannot plan to "go home" because sometimes there are no jobs to be had. We searched all 50 states, and ended up with a great job here in Illinois. 5 hours from his family and a 2 day drive from mine, but the pay is good and so are the benefits. Plus, he loves what he does and is happy which is important. Be prepared for people not understanding how your military skills can help you. Many employers see the training as helpful and that you will be disciplined an used to structure, but many more just don't see how "fighting wars" will be an asset in their company.
