Has anyone used Tricare Express Scripts while being away from post?

I need a refill on my prescription that i would normally just refill through the on post pharmacy. However i am not near my post or any post for that matter, so i need to just use a regular pharmacy. Do i need to get a written prescription from my on post doctor or call the pharmacy? Or do i just call call express scripts?

I have no idea how this works, and the online information wasn't very helpful nor was the person i first spoke to from express scripts.

Any help on how to get your prescription when you are away from post would be helpful! Thanks

I've never used Express Scripts (I just get my prescriptions from a retail pharmacy like Target) but I would suggest you keep calling their number until you get the answers you need. I know it can take a week or two to get the prescription through the mail.

When I get prescriptions through Target I pay 3 dollars for generics or 9 dollars for name brand drugs. If you don't mind paying that, you could just take your current prescription to a retail pharmacy and ask them to refill it there.

I would think you could call your home clinic and have the Dr call or electronically send your prescription to a local pharmacy. That's what I would do if I was dealing with a civilian Dr. Hope everything works out.

I would think you need an actual prescription since you could be taking an empty bottle to multiple pharmacies. Again, most prescriptions are sent through a computer system or by the phone, so the distance shouldn't be an issue. Just make sure your Dr. or clinic knows exactly what pharmacy and town you need it sent to.

I've been able to take my empty pack of birth control in (as long as it has my name, DOB, prescription number and the name/number of the doctor who prescribed it) and then ask them to refill it. They will call your pharmacy or doctor or whoever it is to verify all the information and then fill it for you. They may have to completely transfer it over from your current pharmacy or they might be able to just do a single refill. I've had both happen in the past. If they are unable to do it, then I'd start calling your clinic or pharmacy and start asking questions and someone can point you in the right direction!

Again, this is just what has worked for me in the past. I haven't had to do this for a while because I get all of my recurring prescriptions filled off post just for this reason! The 3 bucks is worth not having to stress about being away from an on post pharmacy!
