Have you tried to get to know the other wives from his unit? Maybe you can reach out to them and get to know them better, then when your husband's are gone, you can all get together once during that trip (or more) for dinner or something like that.

Definitely keep yourself busy while he's gone. Like Jen said, you can look into classes or new hobbies that can help keep you occupied while he's gone.
