I know there was a program out there that was set up to help military families with issues like this when the housing market crashed. I'm not sure if it's still around and I can't remember what it is called but hopefully someone else will have that information for you.

This is the very reason that we've never bought a home. Yes, living in apartments sucks the big one but when it's time to move (which we've done 4 times in 6 years), we simply pack up and go.

I'm sorry you are in this situation. It stinks but that's how military life is. Good luck.

I know there is a homeowner's assistance program, but you're only eligible for it if you lose money when you sell your house because you were forced to PCS because of a base realignment/closure.

The problem is, we BOTH own houses.

No one is blaming you for owning a house before you married a military man.

Yuck, I'm sorry things are going like this for you... You're going to have to be REALLY proactive in your solutions though and you have a few.

1) Go through an agent and try to sell ASAP.

I agree with a lot of what Jess said.

If it comes to it, you can always do long distance for a while. No, it is not ideal but plenty of us have had to do it. You could stay in your home with your job and you could try to get his house sold first. If it sells, then you can start working on selling yours. If it doesn't, you can get it set up to rent. It might take a few months but you have to do what you have to do.

How long has your DH been at his current duty station?

The problem is, we can't put his house on the market because he doesn't have orders and won't until just a few weeks before he needs to move - that is what I'm so furious about.

If you have renters in your house, then you shouldn't have to work to cover that mortgage.

Jess, I agree with everything you have said.

To the OP, I don't understand what you want to hear? PCS'ing is a fact of military life, suggesting that it is to punish you for being successful , well, that is just ..it just doesn't make any sense. Also, you can rent houses, people rent them out all the time.

This whole thing is the reason we never purchased a home. I just don't want to deal with the hassle of selling. If it means 7 more years in an apartment then so be it:)
