My dh wants to join the National Guard

Hi Everyone! I'm Shannon (26) and dh Joe (29) wants to join the National Guard. He says he would go active, but financially we would be better off in the beginning b/c he can get his leave pay from his current job and the military pay. But he will probably go active next year if he can get it approved. I'm all for it but a little weary about it with this war going on. He has already spoken to a recruiter and taken the ASVAB and it looks like if everything works out he will probably leave in June or July. He is trying to wait until my car is paid off so that will be one less bill for me to worry about. We have been married for 7 yrs and we have no children except for my 3 labs, Buddy, Belle, and Sassy. (They are my babies)

My father is retired Army and I practically grew up around the military so I was excited when Joe decided he wanted to do this.

Right now Joe is a fireman and an EMT so I'm kind of used to being alone but only for a couple of nights at a time. So I'm a little worried about that to.

I am currently working full-time as an accounting assistant at a local community college and I go to school at night for medical transcription.

Well, I just wanted to introduce myself to all of you. If any of you have any advise, feel free to post it! I would love it!

Welcome to the board! Hope you will feel at home here. The only thing you may want to consider is that if he goes Guard now, there is still a good possibility that he can be deployed. I'm sure you guys have thought about all that, but if not, I wanted to make sure you knew that would be a possibility. Either way I think he will do fine. You seem to be pretty independent already & that is a great part of being a military wife! Please keep us updated on how he's doing & when he will leave!

My dh is in the NG. And as of now, he's on 30 mins. notice to deploy. Let me back up. He's been on active duty for two months and can be shipped out at any time. I hate it. But at the same time...I have noticed that I have a strange sense of pride too. I am very proud of my husband right now. It's hard, yes. But this will make my dh and myself much stronger people. You seem like you'd be ok with being alone and all. And the extra paycheck helps out a lot. If you have any specific questions you like to ask me, please feel free to email me at ngwife2@yahoo.com I look forward to hearing from you.

BTW...I am Jami, a SAHM and Proud NG wife in Va...

I just wanted to say thank you all so much for your nice welcomes. Joe wants to be a medic and if I understand correctly, he will be training in Texas for about 5 mths or so.

You are all so strong and I'm praying for safe returns for all of our soldiers.

Thank you again for your warm welcomes.
