Earlier this week, the Navy said that they will start conducting random blood alcohol tests on its sailors.  The tests are scheduled to begin next month.  The tests will be used to determine a sailor is fit for duty or may need counseling.  Any sailor found to have a blood alcohol level of 0.04 or higher when reporting for duty will not be allowed to work.

What do you about the random alcohol tests?

When I was active duty we had random urinalysis done all the time.  At least once a quarter there was a detail formed to run one, with names from the whole base randomly pulled.  I have known many people in all branches of the service and there is, in my opinion, many instances where people have not had enough time between their last drink and the time they needed to report for duty.  There are many times I have wondered if there was a chance if they were fit for duty.  I think if the Navy feels the need to do this, they may have some justification for this need.
