Public Display of Support for our Troops
Tue, 04-01-2003 - 4:42pm
Today I had to run an errand & on my way out just a couple of blocks from my apt complex there were groups of people on the corners of a busy intersection w/ signs & flags in support of our troops. Honestly, it brought tears to my eyes. I've been so angry with the media because it seems for the most part you only see people in protest of the war and not as much in support. It felt so wonderful to physically see people in support of our troops.

I hear you Danielle,

DH and I were on our way to church on the base Sunday morning and I noticed outside the base (not gov. property) were yellow ribbons tied to the light poles.

Our base hosts reservists from all branches and we have so many of them deployed right now. It was very touching to see that display.

Thats so wonderful to hear. They have been doing posititive stories on the news here where I am from and I think the news stations are great for covering the good here. They tend not to cover the bad so much. But then again I don't watch much news. I hope you have a great day.

I'm so glad to hear that. I'm with you, the public displays of support help a LOT!

You will never believe this story that happened right where I live in Thousand Oaks, CA. A woman who is the mother of a deployed Marine went up and down one of our main roads and hung yellow ribbons on all the trees. I drove down the street that day and was just in awe. I mean, it went for miles. Do you know what the city did?! They took them down--- the same day!! Apparently, the city did not want to appear to be showing any kind of political viewpoints. Um, hello? Supporting the military is not a political statement, last I heard!! Anyways, public outcry was so strong, they allowed her to put them all back up. Here's the full story:,1375,VCS_166_1855010,00.html

I was so glad when they decided that the yellow ribbons will stay. And, since the ribbons went back up, more ribbons have popped up all over the city. :)
