QOTW: Has Skype killed love letters?

I just saw a teaser for an article in the May 2012 issue of Military Spouse Magazine that asks "Has Skype Killed Love Letters".

I want to know how you feel about it.

I know I still have the letters my dh sent me, tucked in a box for safe keeping. I pull them out sometimes and re-read them.  Over 10 years has gone by since he wrote them and he's a different person now in many ways thanks to PTSD, so the letters are bittersweet.  He never deployed to an area where he could have much internet access although we did email each other daily to share in what was going on at home and with the kids, but the letters, just to me are the most special memories I have.

The technological advancements are great but sometimes I think of the families that served before email and texting and skype.  Could this generation fare as well if they didn't have that instant  access to their service members like we do?

I do think Skype has killed love letters, and it's unfortunate.  I know Skype is a great communication tool, but it can't replace handwritten letters.
