Question about deployments

My Dh's brigade got a call the other day saying to be ready for a possible deployment to Afganistan after they get back from Ft. Knox. They haven't gotten orders but I was wondering from you experienced wives if you know how likely it is that they will get orders. He said it's the most likely it's been since he has been up here but it's not a total for sure. Any thoughts? I just want to be as prepared as possible for this if it happens.

My best advice is to always be prepared at any point and time for a deployment, when he comes to you and says it is possible find out if it has come from the top or just a rumor, the rumors run wild in alot of places, depending on his MOS he could be called to leave within hours or most likely he would get orders and they would have to prepare to leave, that is how most are like , my husband sometimes has time but most times it is fast but his MOS is much diffrent than most,so i would just say be prepared, hope for the best expect the worst, enjoy what time you have together and while you are apart try to plan what you will do when he comes home a mini vacation a party ,maybe while he is away redecorate a room or the whole house ,if you have a certain craft you enjoy take this time to perfect it, It gets lonely at times and you miss them like crazy but you have to go on with life and when the days where you feel like crying hit, well then stay in your PJs put on a sappy girly movie and cry your eyes out, remember the love the two of you feel and hold onto it because he is feeling the same though he will have a mission at hand to keep him busy he still feels the same lonliness as you, you can get through, and don't live for the what ifs, live for the right nows, because you will miss alot if you worry too much about what if he has to go, what if ,be prepared but don't let it run your lives.

Hope that was helpful.

There's absolutely no way to know for sure. Possible means just that. Things ALWAYS change.

My DH had orders (orders IN HAND) to Afghanistan TWICE last year and never went.

For this conflict, Central Command had said that my DH's unit would be leading the way to Baghdad. Well, they're not. They haven't left yet! LOL. In fact, they received their deployment orders after being told that they were NOT deploying but would be going to NTC instead.

Be prepared for anything. You're better off planning in your mind for a deployment and then being pleasantly surprised if he doesn't go.
