Women Cleared for Combat Roles

Panetta is expected to announce today that the direct ground combat exclusion for women will be eliminated.  This means that women will be able to be assigned to positions in ground combat units at the battalion level.  Women in the military will have access to 237,000 jobs across service branches.

What do you think about the ban being lifted?

I think it's about time!

I have known many women who were pilots for F15's...they were just as good as their male counterparts but they could not fly those jets in combat.  These women had the same training, the same knowledge and skills, but because of their gender they were denied the right to perform the mission they were trained for.

Many men I spoke with over the years said they didn't deny we could do the job just as well, if not better than them, but theu were concerned with our hormones...especially once a month, making us become unstable and irrational.  I say, any woman, with the training to perform those jobs, will know how to handle herself ANY TIME

I feel that a woman can do whatever job she is qualified.

So if she is qualified to lead troops to battle then good on her!

Men aren't the only strategists in the world. Women can coordinate getting multiple children to multiple schools, after school functions, and still get dinner on the table and household chores done and get a good nights sleep. Some men get confused in a grocery store with a detailed list of what is needed...hahahaha

I think a long as it's a job they are a good fit for and something they want to do, they should be allowed to serve in that position regardless of gender. Both men and women in the military understand the risks involved, it's an individual choice.
