Plan the wedding around probation shifts

Hi ladies, I'm fiancée to a FF to be. He's in the San Antonio Fire Academy right now and we're trying to plan our wedding in August. He'll be graduating in July and will have the usual 24/48 schedule. We're having a hard time figuring out if he'll be able to trade shifts during probation to make time for the big day and a short honeymoon.
If you know anything about the probation rules, have had a similar experience, or even some random advice on marrying a firefighter, I'd be ever so grateful for your help.

My DH had no problem trading shifts while on probation.

My DH didn't have a problem taking off during his probation but his station is not as strict as others about it.

Hello there!

I'm Sarah, married to Seth, who's been with the Santa Fe department for about 5 years now. When DH was on probation, we were trying to buy our first house and his upper management told him there was no way he was going to be able to take a day off. It was stressful but thankfully we got everything taken care of. Maybe his department's a little more strict than others, it seems...

And about being married to a FF - Jami's advice is what I'd give you - you definitely have to be flexible and definitely try to get to know some of the other girlfriends and wives from the dept. My friends have been an invaluable resource to me trying to adjust to some of the oddities of FF life. :o) Good luck!
