It happens every year, and I can't imagine how hard it has to be for the rescue workers. We are near Lake Michigan, and in the past week there have been three teenage drownings that I'm aware of. The lake has rip currents, and people who aren't familiar with the lake don't realize this. One boy jumped in to help his younger sister, and he was fortunate to have been pulled out. It took 8 men to rescue him. It's mostly people going to beaches without life guards or people who hear about the "no swimming" and then go down a half mile to where there aren't life guards to tell them to stay out of the water.
Do you have a lot of deaths like this in your area too? I almost don't even want to look at our local headlines each morning because of this.

That's awesome that your lake has life jackets available like that. A good use of federal dollars, for a change. Yea, the Army Corps of Engineers is all about safety...they certainly don't take chances, do they?

Well...common sense seems to be more and more uncommon these days
