While not a cop wife, I am soon to be a cop Mother-in-law and thought if anyone would have great ideas for academy graduation gifts.

Gifts are always appreciated whole heartedly. And for that gift, if you put in a little more effort and money and get it personalized, they’ll mean so much more, no matter how great an idea you think of, a personalized gift will always leave them impressed. You can gift him anything from a personalized lighter (if he smokes) to a personalized pocket watch with his name engraved on it. In my opinion you should buy him a personalized money clip or a wallet like this one

I've heard good things about the book you mentioned...you're wonderful, being supportive of your daughter and son-in-law as they pursue their passion. The St. Michael's medal is an awesome idea. You're doing great!

Hi!! Welcome to the board!!! I'm Shelly. It sounds like you have a couple of really good ideas already. Also, a guy can never have too many mag lights ; ) Um..... also a lot of officers wear underarmor under their uniforms shortsleeve and long sleeve. It keeps the itchies away and in the winter keeps them warmer.

Thank you for the warm welcome! They come out of Ontario Police college very well outfitted, so, while great for them, tough to buy for. I've asked my daughter (who is also on track to being an officer by next year)what he needs and we went over the list of possibles. Maglight -got it, slash-proof gloves - got them, duty bag - got one, paperwork clipboards etc. - got em.......:smileymad:

Congrats to you on your soon-to-be officer son-in-law. It's very thoughtful of you to consider giving him a graduation gift. Depending on the department he'll be working for, a cash gift might be appropriate. Some departments purchase everything the officer will need, but others don't (especially with budget cuts and the economy), so there may very well be specific things that he'll be needing in order to get started. A visa debit card or something like that, useable at a variety of merchants online, might work well. You could also ask your daughter if he's received any sort of "required equipment" list, either from the academy or from the hiring/sponsoring department? That might give you some ideas, as well. You could get him a gift certificate from Galls or another police supplier. If he's Christian, look on Amazon for the Police Officer's Bible. My dh loves his.

HTH. I hope you'll consider being a part of this board, and/or give your daughter the link so she can visit as well. Being a cop family comes with its own unique set of stresses, and having support can be a nice thing.
