Oh I hate the Monday night quarterbacking and criticism...cops can't win. If they get involved in a pursuit (especially if something goes "wrong") they're criticized...but if they didn't chase the person and the person ended up killing someone down the road, they'd be criticized for not having chased them. What a thankless career, eh? If I were you, I wouldn't read the newspaper/online comments...they're only going to make your blood boil. If someone dares to say something to your face, I'd reply with something to the effect that an officer must make a split-second judgment, and that's not something the ordinary citizen is called to do on a routine basis, so perhaps the complainer would like to walk a footstep or two in any officer's shoes before rendering judgment.

I'm so glad your dh is ok! A trooper acquaintance/co-worker of mine was killed in a chase-related accident a couple of months ago :-(

I'm glad your husband is ok! Although I too live in a small rural town I've not had to deal with people criticizing my husband like this. However, people do criticize the PD as a dept. I usually just say something like it's not as easy as you would think to be a police officer. If they were criticizing him, i'd probably tell people that he was doing his job just like they do theirs. His job keeps THEIR families safe. I'm sorry you both have to deal with this.
