it's been almost two months since me and the ex broke up. i went out with friends last week - met a really nice guy. actually got excited. we had a wonderful night together. then last night he told me he likes me but i'm too old for him. i'm 34 and he's 30. i'm crushed. who says that? so am i destined to be broken and single forever? don't even know how to process that comment. what a tough thing to hear.

I would recommend pacing your hopes with a man's interest in you. That way, you don't get as dissapointed as you might otherwise. Via a dating site, I talked to 2-3 different, eligible women per night for over a year, along with many repeat chats, to find the one woman that I am now engaged to. Personally, I was never dissapointed even though I spoke to many women that I would have liked to pursue further but only because I kept my heart in check and didn't get ahead of their level of interest.

Honestly he is the one losing out. Better he tells you now than if you had dated a few more times or gotten intimate. Now that would be a blow!

I am 5 years older than my hubby and we have been together 28 years. Not all guys that are a little younger act like the one you went out with.

was he drunk?

No, you're not destined to be broken and single forever. You are honing your man picker to weed out idiots and those who are not worth your time.  You're going to have to wade through a lot of toads to get to your prince... learn some frog leg recipes. ;)

That's kind of crazy--4 yrs is not a big difference if you're in your 30's--in high school it is.  I'm 55 and I had a guy who was 35 hitting on me--and he knows how old I am.  But surely you shouldn't think that cause one guy doesn't want to date you it means you will be single forever.
