Welcome to the board dtaylor,

It's not unusual to see posts regarding addictions (drugs, alcohol, porn, online gaming, even video games), so hopefully others will reply to your post and share their story.

Sorry you are going through this.....It doesn't surprise me...

I dated a "gamer" for over 3 years he was also 33, we broke up ... it wasn't over the video games (I even play every once in a while just to relieve stress, I got into it some because it gave us more time doing something together) But looking back on the relationship, it wasn't all it was cracked up to be in more ways than one. The marathon sessions of doing raids and such, sometimes he would not even go out of the house from the time he got home on Friday until Monday, (all this time wasn't spent on the games, but the majority of it was). He could be what and who he wanted to be in game. Sometimes I think it is an escape for some people.

This is who he is and what he likes to do, you are not going to change him, he has to do that himself and there is a good possibility that will not happen, it is an addiction for some people. Relationships and even marriages have broken up over this. Some people will even take their vacations when a update is released or a new version so that they can get the jump on everyone else, and spend the whole week leveling up and getting gear and doing quests.

I think you dodged a bullet with this one, if he is addicted to the game then you are better off finding someone that will make you #1. You deserve for someone to make you their priority..... Good luck

Not at 33 no, but my ex was 22 and..I remember he brought me to this arcade to play some game, and lo and behold, the entire 'top score' list(s) was his name.

But no, I did kind of break up because i was interfering with his weekly Dungeons and Dragons game, but I digress.

I do promise that one day in the near future, you'll look back at this with detached amusement and laugh because it's just so utterly ridiculous.

I was reading about a rehab that started maybe a year ago for gamers.

I think there are a whole lot of people who could use that for sure!
