Did I do the right thing?

Ok, I will make this short. My boyfriend and I had been together 2 1/2 years, being really good friends and spending 2-3 days a week together...fast forward to 2 months ago when he began working on his car in a far away city and we barely got a chance to see eachother (9 days in 1 month I saw him). When he got a month into it he realized that he had let his work fall behind and had to spend all his time fixing that (4-5 days in a row). He wouldn't be able to hang out, forgot to call me. When I confronted him about it he confessed that he had to much to balance and wasn't balancing us, couldn't really balance us. I am low maintenance I feel, I would've been happy if he had just called me more while he was working, so I at least knew he cared-(and I told him that is all it would take) but he said he couldn't think that way. Well, I love him so much and didn't want to break up but then he mentioned that he had to "call me out" about something and proceeded to say I had bad hygeine because I work at a coffee shop and my hair and breath smelled bad to him, like coffee and that it disgusted him. So I flipped and decided we should break up, which we did. Now I don't ask for much but that mean thing to say on top of him not working at our relationship? I think I deserve more, I may not be perfect but I tried so hard wo work on my relationship issues and really wanted to make it work. Tell me- did I do the right thing?

I think you did the right thing. He wasn't putting any effort into the relationship anymore and then added insult to injury bad criticizing your hygeine although I think he was just grasping at straws...otherwise why would he have stayed with you so long if he couldn't stand your breath or hair....it doesn't make since. I know it hurts but you'll get through this and be happier in the long run. Good luck and keep us posted!!
