I'm so sorry you had to go through that. I'm sure though, as much as it shocked you to have the finality of it, and though you're angry at his method... It can't be TOO surprising to you that he's broke up with you this way. Please remember that his actions are not a reflection of you, it's all about him and how cowardly, manipulative, and perhaps mentally ill he is.
I wouldn't pick up. He's broken up with you and regardless of how he did it, I agree, he's allowed you to finish your prison sentence in this relationship. A week's salary sucks to lose, but you can now use that time to do other things to help you recover.
