Guess what he did now!

Ok, so I checked my bank account on-line today after school to see if the tax refund had gone through yet, and to make sure my paycheck went in yesterday. Well, no tax return yet, no big deal. I see that my paycheck was deposited, but that his is not there. We both work in the same school district, so his check should have been there. Well, I take that as he has his checks being direct deposited to another bank account. Not a big deal, I was going to do the same once the tax return is deposited. But the problem is that he is still spending money from the bank account. He bought gas today for $28. Why can't he use his paycheck, or his new bank account. If he's not going to have his paycheck put in the bank to help pay for the bills that we still share (cell phone, auto insurance, but I did start a new policy; but it is automatic withdrawl from the account, meaning I get to pay his auto insurance now; don't think so) then he doesn't need to spend money from this account anymore. He's spent $27 at the grocery store and $21 at Target on Monday. And he's also made two E-Bay purchases for $20; one on Monday, and one today. I can't believe he's doing this. What makes him think that he gets to spend money when he's no longer contributing? So, I booked it to the bank, made it there with 15 min. to spare, and withdrew all but $300 from the checking, and left the $125 in savings. I can't close the account yet, because I am still waiting for the tax refund. I just know now that I have to keep a close eye on the account. I need to set up my own bank account here tomorrow during my conference period at a local bank, and that way once the tax return is deposited, I can transfer it online to my new bank account.
I also called and reported his check card stolen, so they put a lock on it. He will be declined the next time he tries to use it.

I started to cry when I saw what he's doing, but now after the fact, I'm pissed! What a jerk!

This is the best thing you could have done. Block his card and leave him without means to steal your money. Make sure that he doesn't get another card from the bank though is it's a joint bank account. Does he have online acces? If he does, he can make online purchases like the one on E-bay. Block him as an online user as well.

mberber2005 you have take the necessary actions so far. What I am worried for you is the tax check on the way. You have to watch for it carefully so you can get it ASAP that way he doesn't withdraw the money. Closing the account and opening your own account is the best thing you can do. I won't even go to the same bank I would go to a different bank. I hope you safeguard what is your. Good luck and let us know what happens.

Hi mberber - in addition to the good advice you've gotten and the way you've already looked out for yourself.

Well, the tax return posted this morning, but it is still pending. I've been watching it all day. I'm going to get up early in the morning and if it has gone through (doubt it since it's Saturday) then I'm heading to the bank. I won't be able to close the account because he is the primary person on the account, but sending him a letter is an excellent idea. I most likely won't be able to do anything until Tuesday after school since Monday is a holiday.

Today during my conf. period, I went to the credit union that the school district uses, and I was turned down because of bad credit. I also went to Verizon store, and tried to get my own cell phone account, but I have to pay $400 deposit for the same reason. So, both of those things together put me in tears.

But after school, I went to Wells Fargo and opened my own checking account and deposited the money. I cried when I left there too. Then I went to the gym for an hour to try to clear my mind of him.
