he freaked when things got good

I've been seeing a guy for about 6 weeks, and I was really starting to like him. We clicked from the very beginning. We've been taking things slow, but they began picking up in the last few weeks. Then all the sudden he emails me that he doesn't want to get serious yet. That was fine with me, he's busy, I'm busy and I'm not ready to jump into a committed realtationship just yet. We had a long talk about what we both want and I thought we were on the same page.
Then he calls out of the blue yesterday and breaks up with me! He says he doesn't want me to get hurt and he's afraid that he will be a jerk and he doesn't want to be.
Do you think he's having a commitment phobia problem? I was totally cool with taking it slow. So what's the deal? Should I just cut my losses now or is it worth trying to come to an understanding with him? He says he thinks I'm great and so he doesn't want to hurt me.
Any help...

I just had a similar thing happen to me this last week after 3 months. One day everything was great and the next.. he put on the breaks. I spend the morning today at the book store reading "He's just NOT that into YOU" They would tell you.. cut your loses and move on. Or else you'll look like you're desperate. And you know we don't want that.
Still stinks! Sorry you are going through this. Men are so confusing! :(
