My Friend Needs Help

Hi everyone. A very good friend of mine just broke up with his girlfriend of 7 years; he caught her cheating on him. This happened 1 week ago and he has been miserable since. My other friends and I have been constantly with him keeping him busy so he doesn't have to think about his ex-girlfriend. The thing is, he has always been a pessimistic person. Now he is even worse since he has so much anger inside of him. I've been trying to help and comfort him the best that I can. What type of things should I say to him to help him move on? And how can I help turn him around so he looks on the bright side of things more often? Any input would be great. Thank you.

The best thing you can do is be there for him and listen. I wouldn't suggest a lecture on life, when you're heartbroken, you just want your friends to either respect your privacy, or listen to you and only respond when you ask for advice. Constantly reassure him that he has friends that care about him and that will help him through this. Moreover, just remind him that he deserves better and that with time, the pain will lessen.
