Ok, Now Where do I find a Good Counselor

I have a question. I went into counseling actually twice before, and it didn’t work out because I didn’t like one of them, and the other one just didn’t seem to be helping me. I would ask for questions and help on things such as suggestions on books I could read on my own and things I could do to help certain behaviors, and she could never even come up with anything for me. She seemed very inexperienced to me. Anyway, my question is how do I find a good counselor who will help me?? I don’t want to just pick one out of a hat again. None of my friends go to counseling, so I cant ask for a recommendation from them. Does anyone here have any suggestions, or maybe even some recommendations on good ones?? I live in NY in huntington, long island.

Thanks so much!!

Try asking your primary care physcian, he/she may have a counselor that they refer to when people go on meds for depression and such. Also try your employer to see if they have an EAP counsleor. Those counselors will usually also help with issues outside of the workplace. Also check with your insurance company to see if they have a list of counselors that you could look over that lists areas of expertise. What types of issues are you looking for books about? Maybe some of the folks on here have suggestions as well.

Good luck,

When I was looking for a therapist, I found this page:

I liked it because you can search for a doctor that specifically deals with relationship problems or whatever it is that you are looking for.
