stay friends and keep hoping?

i've been talking to a guy for a couple of months now who lives on the opposite coast from me. We met through mutual friends during a vacation. Since then, he's come to visit me twice and everything seemed great. However, after the last visit, he became more distant and I finally confronted him and he told me that he just didn't want a long distance relationship even though he really feels a connection to me. He wants to keep talking, but I decided that it would be too hard because I clearly want more than friendship. My dilemma is that in 9 months he'll be moving to my city. It is so tempting to keep the friendship going and just hope that when he gets here things will be different. I really connected with him and he feels the same. He says that he doesn't see me as just a friend, all the romantic feelings are there but it would just be too hard to make a commitment right now. On my part, I'm not looking for an ironclad commitment, I just want to know that he's open to it when we're finally in the same city at the same time. I guess my question is, is the long distance really just his way of saying he doesn't see things going further? And if not, should I keep talking to him to see if things can go further once he moves out here?

::but it would just be too hard to make a commitment right now.
He doesn't want to make a commitment though he will be in the same city as you in 9 months... this tells me that he'd rather be doing something else with his time for the next 9 months. You can stay friends, but chances are even being in the same city won't change his mind, that's just my personal opinion. Hopefully, someone else will have some good advice for you.

sure you can stay friends if you want but I'd keep your options open. He's being open about his own expectations for right now. Relax and keep your head on. It could turn out to be great or not. That's what dating is all about littleone ;)
A lot can happen in 9 months.
Let us know how it goes.
In nine months, you could have already found someone else who rocks your world, so don't get yourself all worked up over this guy.
