Hey all,

If you've been on the board for any period of time, you know I love Marie Forleo's book, "Make Every Man Want You (or Make Yours Want You More): How to be so damn irresistible you'll barely keep from dating yourself!"

Anyway, if you haven't read it, I again strongly suggest you do. Why? Because your breakup recovery time will reduce dramatically, and, because you'll thank me later. I promise you this book will help you feel great about yourself. It's part of the Top Five books Carrie and I recommend on the Breaking Up is Hard to Do Recommended Reading list we posted in the Resources section on the first page of this site.

Book List: http://messageboards.ivillage.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=iv-rlbreaking&msg=23280.1

So, last week I came home from a business trip and there was a message on my voicemail. As I'm walking through the airport listening to it, my heart jumps. Guess who? Marie Forleo. Calling me. Amazing! Long story short, I had emailed her in regards to something on her website and mentioned how much I enjoy her book and how every woman I'd recommended it to had found it truly helpful and inspirational! I'm on my fourth or so reading of it so far myself and actually, it's never very far from me. We talked about all the positive changes in my life that have been facilitated through some of the shift in thinking and focus I've learned through absorbing the material. She talked to me about some amazing new programs she's got coming up this coming year and about some things I may be participating in. Wow, this is such a shift from what I originally set out to do in life, and I'm so excited about it! Marie is every bit as sensational, upbeat, approachable and genuinely cares about women's well-being as she seems on TV and in her book. Men's, too, because the ideas in her book, despite the title, are truly universal and transformational. So you can imagine my thrill to talk with her, wow!

She's asked me to help her by asking those of you who've read her book to participate in a very short, very anonymous survey. Since I can't post the link directly on here, email me through the profile and I'll send you the link to the survey.

Here's my blurb on the book from the Reading List:

Make Every Man Want You (or Make Yours Want You More): How to be So Damn Irresistible You'll Barely Keep From Dating Yourself! - Marie Forleo

Most women have NO IDEA that many of their normal and traditional ways of relating damage their ability to have satisfying relationships with men - and with themselves. One of the best, most direct and no-nonsense books I've read in a long time. This book cuts through the B.S., the haze of insecurity, the lies women tell themselves, misconceptions and negative attitudes that truly get in the way of their birthright to have a amazing relationships and an incredible experience of life. There are 5 Time-Tested Truths, 7 Habits of Highly Unattractive Women (you'd be surprised), and 8 Secrets to Magnetizing Men.

Sandra’s comment: Contrary to being a book full of tricks on how to 'land your man,' it's actually more of an honest pep-talk on how to get over the drama and be your best self. Every line is a gem, every idea is applicable. You’ll keep reading this one over and over.

If you want the link direct to her website, let me know that, too. You can also get the book on Amazon.

Thanks!

sandra, i looked at that book when it was mentioned in another thread, but this time i got it at amazon. i hope it is as helpful as you say. other reading i picked up from here was the four agreements. i am not done with it yet, but i suppose reading things like this will help in making this break-up time rewarding as others have said they have found their break-up time. looking forward to the book.

thanks, ic.

I've decided to combine my retail therapy urge and my need to grow past my break-up. I've bought 4 books off the list, including "Why Men Love Bitches". I've just found that in relationships I've always sacrificed too much of myself, so I'm hoping this is the kick in the pants I need (this is ironic considering I'm pretty assertive in all the other areas in my life). Thanks for the book recommendations!

hugs, lisa

Anything that will help women feel better about themselves is great. Especially after the "failure" of a divorce or break up.

I'm glad you took a chance and picked it up. When I first got it, I was a little skeptical of the title (plus you can imagine the looks the cover gets you!), but since I'd already heard a few of her interviews and liked what she had to say, I also took the chance. Terrific move on my part, I'd say! Yours too :)

Let me know how you like the book, since you now decided to get it, now's the time that was meant for you to have it. There are no accidents. I checked in with another friend of mine who finally was ready for it too, and one week later her outlook is much much better than when I last talked to her and she was upset she's 30 and as yet unmarried and childless. Now she can't wait to enjoy her life as it is NOW.

Best of luck and post back when you've read it :)

I's only been telling you about it forever, girl! LOL This fits in great with the Transformational approach by Ariel and Shya Kane, and in fact is almost wholly influenced by their work, she's a student of theirs.

Pffft,

Excellent! I read between 20-30 books after my breakup, also, and this little book, while it doesn't replace all those others, very much stands out from the rest because it is so EASY to absorb and apply to your life. You'll feel yourself just "getting it." It's mind-bending in its simplicity and astuteness.

You know what's odd is that women who ARE typically assertive everywhere in their lives tend to either railroad through their romantic lives or take a complete back seat in them. Reason is because we either don't know how to "turn it off" after the workday or conversely, we want someone else to "take over." Is that what you mean by giving too much? I have the Why Men Love Bitches book also, and I think the combination will be a good kickstart for you. Let us know how you like the books you got :)

Good luck!

I know what you mean about feeling like a divorce is a failure. I'm hoping Chapter 1 will help you see it wasn't a failure at all, but rather something that just was, that just had to be so you could eventually make your true mark on your life. This is a very different way of thinking and being than the norm.

After my divorce, I subconsciously felt like no one would ever truly want me, because I was "damaged goods." Fabulous me, damaged goods!? Ha! Of course now I realize that's not true, but back then, the wounds were still very raw.

Anyway, one the one hand I wish I had the book back then, at the same time, though, I know my life wouldn't have taken the turns it has, and they've been overall good. This is where I'm supposed to be in life right now, and it's good. This is where you're supposed to be right now, learning things about yourself you never realized before, preparing yourself for your own fabulousness, and later on you'll look back and see it was overall good, too. I promise.

Hugs,

I find myself in the same boat... I always give and sacrafice everything for the man... I am in a relationship now and it is on the verge of a break up. I need to learn to love me more than I love any man... Thank you Sandra. I am going to buy it today at lunch.
