Trouble Getting Over It? Try This.

My boyfriend of 3 months and I broke up last night. It wasn't a shock to me since I'd been getting a little irritated with what was happening lately. Nevertheless, there were some great things about him that I really enjoyed.

This is my ump-teenth breakup in the last few years, so whenever my relationship ends, I make a list of things that I know I'll miss and things that I know I won't. I find writing things down means that I have to spend less energy remembering them later because, well, I've written them down.

Here's what I've got so far for Jeff:

What I'll miss:

*unbelievably incredible sex. I mean, it was just unreal
*our mutual love of pizza and beer

What I won't miss:

*those horribly boring talks about DNA and RNA and transcriptase and nucleotides and rhizobia and all that other boring stuff I tried so hard to remember
*how he quit running and exercising after we became a couple
*he wanting me to learn to play "Clair de Lune"
*not brushing his teeth before bed
*the dirty apartment
*the dysfunctional toilet (I was scared to do #2 because it wouldn't flush!)
*he was a graduate student who exercised no fiscal responsibility when he ate pizza every day for at least two meals (I am not joking about this, people.)
*his judgement of and picking at other people ("she seemed to use the word utilitarian a lot")
*how alone I felt in the conversation we had on the coast right after one of my best friends was killed
*how he never amazed me
*how much he changed after he got comfortable in our relationship and totally disengaged
*paying for everything
*never getting to see him even though we only live an hour apart
*he will probably never take a vacation, especially if it doesn't involve working

You'll see, girls. Your "won't miss" list will eventually be longer than your "will miss" one.

Here's to freedom!
