What do yall think?

Okay, this question isn't about a breakup but it will help me get over my breakup (and hopefully keep me from thinking of contacting my ex who physically hurt me, I've been pretty successful lately).
There is a guy I met a few years ago in my class. We hit it off as friends but I was with my ex at the time. We studied and stuff, and when he found out I had a boyfriend he seemed a little "shot down," but I could have just been imagining that. I really liked this guy (as a friend) and I also thought he was very attractive, but I never saw him as anything more because I was in love with my ex.
Fast forward two and a half years. He walked into my summer school class on Monday and my heart skipped a beat. Seeing him again without a boyfriend made me look at him so differently. We talked after class. The next day I told him I moved back home (he had been to my apt and met my boyfriend when we studied) and he asked if I was still with my boyfriend and I said no. We spent the next couple days sitting next to each other, and my friend who is in the class said he kept looking at me slyly so I wouldn't see. Anyway, we exchanged numbers "to study." I couldn't help myself. I'm so smitten that I sent him a message on Facebook (for those of you who don't know, it's kind of like myspace but for people with a college email address). My message asked him if he'd ever like to hang out sometime outside of class. I sent it yesterday at 1:52pm. Now it is 9:17pm the next day. I've been checking my Facebook every hour since I sent it!
My question is, from what you heard do you think he is interested? Do you think I'm just checking too often and maybe he hasn't even gotten onto facebook in the past couple days? I would be really sad if he wasn't interested. He smiles at me a lot in class but he is really hard to read because he is so nice to everyone. What should I do? I want to call him so bad but I don't want to seem desperate or anything. I'm reallly not desperate, I have other guys I could date but I REALLY REALLY like this guy. One more question, was that too forward of me to ask if he wants to hang out outside of class?
Thanks!
