If the guy that dumps you owes you money (almost $300, in my case) for things that the two of you were paying together (and very important things, at that), should you contact him for it? Or just chalk it up to a loss, even if you might need the money?

I would write it off. He knows he owes you the money, right? If he wants to do the right thing, he'll pay you, but I don't think contacting him about it is going to change what he's planning to do one way or the other, and it WILL set you back.

I'm not sure what you might have been paying for jointly, but now would be a good time to make other arrangements so there's nothing tying the two of you together.

Hi quietdomino7,

Interestingly enough, I had this happen to me when I was in College. Most times I recommend that you write it off, but when I was in college, living with a roommate, paying my own way, I really needed the money and this guy wanted to 'be friends' and I felt totally taken advantage of.
