How do you go about finding a good therapist? I have never been to counseling before, but truly feel like I need it. My depression over my MM is moving to a very unhealthy level. Thanks!

I have always gone by recommendations by someone. Do you know any friends who are or have been seeing one? If you don't want anyone to know your business, you could always say that it is for a friend, etc. The one I am seeing now, my mom's doctor highly recommeded her and I have been seeing her on and off for a few years.

Kelly,

I called my insurance company to see which therapists accepted my insurance. I also asked for a woman therapist whose office was close to my job.

The first T I went to was awful. She didn't get it at all - told me that I cheated for the sex! Luckily, I spoke w/ a friend who told me not to get discouraged and to try someone else. I really like the gal I go to now. And I'm making tons of progress!!

Good luck to you!

Does your employer have an employee assistance program. That is also a good place to start. That is what I am doing. You won't get support on this board so get yourself some good therapist.

Hiya Foolish,

<<>>

Ummmm...This is a support board, so I'm a little confused as to how you might have formed such an opinion.

<<>>

It's my belief that anyone who's skewed enough to embark upon an affair is going to benefit from the guidance of a skilled therapist. Therapy has certainly been beneficial for me over the last year.

Best of luck to you in locating a suitable therapist.

Wishing you strength & peace,

Posie,
I agree. This board is extremely supportive. I am curious to know why she felt that I or anyone for that matter couldn't get support from here. Anyway...I am just reluctant to mention to my employer (in the military)that I need help.

Hiya Kelly,

I'm a military brat so understand about not wishing to go through the military docs.

It might be worthwhile to speak with the base chaplain and he/she may well be able to put you in touch with a suitable therapist or on base counsellor who may or may not require a referral.

If neither of these are options you might consider, email me privately via my profile and I may just know someone who might be able to assist insofar as more military specific suggestions.

Wishing you strength & peace,
Posie

Well Posie I have posted a couple of times requesting some support and suggestions and gotten zip, nadda, zilch. I guess my questions or concerns weren't important enough.

Hiya Foolish,

Checked archives and see nothing posted under the name Foolish2004. Perhaps you've changed user names?

At any rate, you have my undivided attention. Bear in mind I'm on UK time by the way, though often pull all-nighters on-call duty so weird posting times all round.

How may I assist you?

Wishing you strength & peace,
Posie
