E-Mail from Diary of an Affair
| Sat, 01-22-2005 - 3:04am |
I received an e-mail from the producers of "Diary of an Affair" today, offering me compensation to tell my story of someone who lived through the rollercoaster of an affair. I was horrified! I have used this message board as a way to safely vent my incredibly sensitive emotions about the most selfish thing I have ever done in my life in the hopes that I could eventually work through it and maybe like myself again one day. Today when I received an e-mail in my personal account, I realized that what I had done wasn't so safe after all. If someone was allowed by ivillage to e-mail and ask me to share all the details of my past affair, and my husband had somehow come across that message, my marriage would be destroyed. I'm pretty upset that this happened. Has anyone else received one of these e-mails? It mentioned that they had read some of my posts on this board, invited me to share details on a nationally televised program (AS IF!!!!), offered compensation, and also mentioned my member name, which I guess I won't be using any more. My husband may not know my password, but he could always search for my member name and see all of the posts I've ever left on this site. I'm more than just a little bit freaked out right now.

I recieved the same email and was equally disgusted! This board is a "safe place" for people to come and share their stories...not a place to be sought out for propaganda (sp?)!!
I allow other members to email me for the simple purpose that sometimes people feel more comfortable sharing certain events or emotions without posting to the entire board. Luckily I have a personal email account that my DH doesn't have access to. It's like a violation of trust that these people have started emailing members for their stories!

I have read about these people they have a bad reputation for DISTORTING peoples stories to make it more saleable.
My advice is do not touch them witha ten foot pole.

I got it too. How can you change what email address to use for your ivillage account? I cannot get back to where I registered so I can change it.

I agree that the producers of so-called 'reality' shows do whatever they can to distort and warp reality so that it fits within what they WANT the public to see - and that's sensationalism that hooks an audience. And ruins people's lives. So if there's anyone out there who is seriously contemplating telling their heartwrenching, emotional story because they think it might help someone else...remember that the producer's couldn't care less how it affects you, and will do nothing to spare your feelings. Or the feelings of anyone you love or care about. It's their job to sensationalize and sell, at whatever cost.
I hereby take back my post about this show.
I'm watching an episode right now about this affair that has no input whatsoever from the OW.
She is made out to be the pursuer of the affair, this beast who pressured him into an affair, and then expected him to move in with her two weeks after D-day.
She may very well have been, but she wasn't included in this show so we will never actually know.
Its incredibly one sided and twisted.
You all were right, I was wrong. I will immediately contact this producer and tell him exactly what I think of his show now that I've seen it and hope that all of you will do the same.
Its one thing to tell the story, but you have to tell it from ALL sides or it doesn't work.
For those of you who didn't receive the email... feel free to contact me and I will give you his contact info. This is disgusting.
