Whether you think you can or you think you can't you are probably right. A parrot can repeat what it has learned but the mark of true intelligence is applying what is learned.

The only thing I can add that took me down a worse thought process than the one of having expectations was the one of NOT having any expectations :) How many times (in a few short weeks) did I hear "let's just enjoy each other"...UGH! There were times I thought I could do just that and have no expectations
This post really speaks to me as well and I wish there were a star system or thumbs up button (like YouTube) so I could vote the highest recommendation on your post. It's so true how we expect so much from them and they seem totally clueless about how their casual attitude affects us. That's the good thing about NC. There are no expectations and none to remain unmet...hence less or no angst.
It took me a long, long time to finally get it through my head, that every time we had contact and it didn't matter who initiated it, there were expectations that went along with that contact. We just don't admit it to ourselves, but it is there, just waiting to be
Your post reminds me of the quote:
Unrealistic expectations lead to great disappointment!

God I love this board....
We are really blessed to have each other to bounce around idea's and share feelings etc.
Bandk-
it really does come down to that one word - expectations.
or maybe a few more - expecting a "fix".
often the "fix" is an unrealized expectation buried deep in our conscious.
Ouh I like!
We could call them EXPECT"FIX"ATIONS!
