This board is full of amazing, insightful women! Thank you everyone for your responses; I've been able to get through another two days due to all your support.
Absolutely. Now that you don't have XAP sucking the life force out of you, you have a real chance. 50 is just a number. It will take a lot of hard work, but you will make it - I'm sure of it.

That is very hard, isn't it? I've been coming to terms with it as well. It is a loss, but if you are keeping the fantasy vs. reality notes with you, it will hopefully help you as much as it helps me. It reminds me that I'm NOT losing anything and that I don't want the man XAP really is.
I'm thinking of you. I hope your family reunion goes well next week.
"Can a 50-year-old woman really change her core beliefs about herself and overcome a lifetime of insecurity and self-loathing to become confident?"
Abso-frickin'-lutely!!! Why not?! When we act in a way we can be proud of, when we get in touch with who we really are... yes, we can love ourselves. It is never too late to create yourself for yourself. Nothing can stop you but your own fears and your own reservations. Just think of all the people who overcome HUGE obstacles in life - like drug addiction, extreme poverty, lack of social/family structure and support. You can do it. You can be the woman you want to be. Never doubt that.

You do have a sense of humor.
My best to you, and good luck going forward.
We only miss what could have been.
We only miss what could have been. I know I don't miss what it really was.
