NC -

I love visual analogies! That's great - you and hubby keep the chainsaw full of gas and prune those rotten trees :)

A powerful image to be sure: even a might old tree can be brought down when the core has been carved away.

I often use the metaphor of a tree when working with women around self-care (ironic, I know) ... It goes something like this:

what is in the soil that surrounds you to provide nourishment to your roots? what is in the soil that contaminates it? What does your trunk look like, is it strong and wide, not blowing easily when the winds of life swirl around you? Or are you a new sapling, learning to be strong and in need at this time of a stake to keep you standing? what supports help keep your trunk strong and healthy? Your branches? Who do you reach out to? Who is there in a moment's notice? What community supports do you reach out to? Do you reach out to the appropriate supports, or is it time to trim back to preserve your health?
