I dont understand why I am so sad? I should be angry at XAP and be able to use the anger to want to keep him out of my life!

You answered all your own questions. You're an intelligent gal. You know what you need to do to heal. It sounds like a bit of therapy would be in order for you to get down to the nitty gritty as to why the lack of self esteem. We can only count on one person in this life of ours and that's ourselves. So learn to love you. If you don't, nobody else will want to. You've been on this roller coaster a long time girlie, don't ya think it's time to jump off and get your life started? I really hope things start lookin up for you, but you're the only one who has control of your destiny.

JLIL -
I echo what actingasif said - find a good therapist to help you. I said this in a post a few weeks ago, one of my mom's favorite sayings that helps me a lot is "feelings aren't facts". Let the feelings pass through you, don't hold onto them.

Dear Princess,
I just want to give you a big hug and tell you you're going to be ok. I think you're trying to rewrite your past so that it's more palatable to you - but none of us can do that no matter how much we'd like to. You're facing up to some serious consequences right now, and that hurts like the dickens. The questions you're asking silently of your X, you should be asking yourself. And the answers you wish he'd give you, you should be giving yourself. Whether or not he deemed you worthy of love and decent caring doesn't matter. What matters is that YOU think you're worthy.... and you ARE. You definitely ARE. You're proving that to yourself by doing the right thing now, even if you were not doing it before. The past is behind you and you have a bright future ahead. It's out there for the taking. You're going to fix yourself up and go out there and find the REAL relationship you deserve. Don't settle for less, Love. You deserve the whole enchilada.
Stay strong and love yourself,
Dee
