Thank you for posting this. I've been thinking about going back to therapy but have never had a great experience with it, even though I know I want to heal/grow/etc. You've inspired me. Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what is BCT? Maybe I should look into that too.

no no no...you explained it just perfectly. I just wanted to help by calling it CBT - and lend my 2 cents as to how I responded and think about this form of therapy. To me, 2 thumbs up!!! xo, M

Dear Renewal,

You sound so full of hope and strength. I am so happy for you that you have found a therapist and style of working with your concerns that works for you (-:

CBT can put a stop negative thought patterns immidiately. Additionally, it does give one a sense of power over their thoughts when we realize how our thoughts indeed shape our feelings and thus our behaviour. CBT is a great approach as long as there is not a history of trauma or abuse that needs to be processed, nor current/on-going abuse.

* The caution with this approach is - because it is sooooo absolutely centered on the person who is seeking therapy, the larger context of the person isn't often taken into consideration (ie: the family, the commuity - like a systems theory approach would take). That's why if you have bigger issues, or more complex issues that you would like to understand that CONSTRUCTED and are INFORMING the negative thought patterns, CBT alone MAY NOT be enough.

Other than that - CBT away! Please keep us posted and let us know of anything you might think useful/helpful. We do indeed go through this journey together ... and for that I am very grateful.

Much Love,

TU.
