MaybeKatie to the Rescue

part of my therapy this week--and beyond--is recording my negative thoughts, identifying which cognitive distortion i am doing (like all of nothing thinking, jumping to conclusions, etc) and then writing a rational response to whatever negative thought i was having.

I had no idea i had SOOO many negative thougths swirling around in my head on any given day. So, i decided to QUIT PROCRASTINATING and go out and do some errands. While doing that, these negative thoughts continued: mainly--I have hurt xMM's feelings regarding the conversation i had with him the other night, etc. I dwelled on this for a while, felt down, moppy and then suddenly i hear MAYBEKATIE's voice in my head: 'HOLD ON TO THAT STRONG FEELING YOU HAD AFTER CONFRONTING HIM."

And i did have a strong feeling after confronting him. Everything i said was RIGHT ON! It's not my issue if he feels bad about it now. As soon as i heard MaybeKatie's voice in my head, i suddenly picked myself and felt strong and proud again.

Aw, shucks... Glad to be of service. You made my day! You all have helped me so much -- nice to know once in awhile there is something of value in my posts. :)

It sounds like you need to forgive yourself first. You said you were "right on" with the things you did, and I'm sure you were. But it makes you feel bad to have hurt him. You need to forgive yourself for the hurt, even though he probably deserves it. You can't worry about how bad it makes him feel right now, you need to focus on you and getting more positivity back in your life. I'm sure MM will get over it and will understand where your words came from. If he doesn't, well that's going to have to be his problem, not yours! I'm glad that you were able to turn your feelings around this afternoon, especially with help from the board!
