Musical Monday

Hello again to all my beautiful EAS family!

After a week off last week trapped in the midst of a deep depression, and a one of the lowest lows during a time when I should have been overly empowered (more on that soon) I return this week with a song that basically speaks for itself.

It is by one of my favorite musicians, Ben Harper. I happened to get to see him last week when he unknowingly played a show with his new band at a small theater in my town.

Foggy - I'm so glad to see you here!

Music has kept me sane this week in BIG BIG ways - and silly as it seems - one that is sticking with me is from Kelly Clarkson -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dNDCu3eK_8

Maybe no one told you there is strength in your tears And so you fight to keep from pouring out But what if you unlock the gate that keeps your secret soul Do you think that there's enough that you would drown? If no one will listen If you decide to speak If no one's left standing after the bombs explode If no one wants to look at you For what you really are I will be here still No one can tell you where you alone must go There's no telling what you will find there And, God, I know the fear that eats away at your bones Screaming every step, "Just stay here" If no one will listen If you decide to speak If no one's left standing after the bombs explode If no one wants to look at you For what you really are I will be here still If you find your fists are raw and red from beating yourself down If your legs have given out under the weight If you find you've been settling for a world of gray So you wouldn't have to face down your own hate If no one will listen If you decide to speak If no one's left standing after the bombs explode If no one wants to look at you For what you really are I will be here still If no one will listen If you decide to speak If no one's left standing after the bombs explode If no one wants to look at you For what you really are I will be here still I will be here still

because I am feeling particularly political these days - K'Naan keeps me company:

And any man who knows a thing knows
He knows not a damn, damn thing at all
And every time I felt the hurt
And I felt the givin' gettin' me up off the wall

I'm just gonna take a minute and let it ride
I'm just gonna take a minute and let it breeze
I'm just gonna take a minute and let it ride
I'm just gonna take a minute and let it breeze

How did Mandela get the will to surpass the everyday
When injustice had him caged and trapped in every way?
How did Gandhi ever withstand the hunger strikes and all?
Didn't do it to gain power or money if I recall

...Ooh yeah, I take inspiration from the most heinous of situations
Creating medication out my own tribulations

"What I Cannot Change"

I know what makes me comfortable
I know what makes me tick
And when I need to get my way I know how to pour it on thick
Cream and sugar in my coffee
Right away when I awake
I face the day and pray to God I won't make the same mistakes
Oh the rest is out of my hands

I will learn to let go what I cannot change
I will learn to forgive what I cannot change
I will learn to love what I cannot change
But I will change, I will change
Whatever I, whenever I can

I don't know my Father
Or my Mother well enough
Seems like every time we talk we can't get past the little stuff
The pain is self inflicted
I know it's not good for my health
But it's easier to please the world than it is to please myself
Oh the rest is out of my hands

I will learn to let go what I cannot change
I will learn to forgive what I cannot change
I will learn to love what I cannot change
But I will change, I will change
Whatever I, whenever I can

Right now I can't care about how everyone else will feel
I have enough hurt of my own to heal

I will learn to let go what I cannot change
I will learn to forgive what I cannot change
I will learn to love what I cannot change
But I will change, I will change
Whatever I, whenever I can
