What do you do when songs trigger emotions? I have songs that remind me of our time together and then I hear songs that trigger sad emotions. He had left this song on my cell phone voice mail and I still have it saved ( i know i should probably delete it but I am not ready to yet).

"My Immortal" by Evanessence

I'm so tired of being here

Suppressed by all my childish fears

And if you have to leave

I wish that you would just leave

'Cause your presence still lingers here

And it won't leave me alone

These wounds won't seem to heal

This pain is just too real

There's just too much that time cannot erase

When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears

When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears

I held your hand through all of these years

But you still have

All of me

You used to captivate me

By your resonating light

Now I'm bound by the life you left behind

Your face it haunts

My once pleasant dreams

Your voice it chased away

All the sanity in me

These wounds won't seem to heal

This pain is just too real

There's just too much that time cannot erase

I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone

But though you're still with me

I've been alone all along

"I can't tell you how many daydreams and scenerios I created in my mind with each and every song. When things were real bad in my home, I would retreat to my fantasy world."

omigosh, blue...I could have written the SAME thing. I have, and still do to a lesser extent, the same thing. And you are right, it IS painful to do....when at one time it was a nice slip into fantasy land.

(sigh)....here's to hoping tomorrow's a better day, eh?

I still think I'm older than you girls, but glad to have some headbangers and metalheads in my midst! I DO remember that song Midnight Blue, late 80s. I can't say I remember many of the lyrics but as soon as you mentioned the artist and time period I remembered it. WOW!

I saw KISS in concert last year with Aerosmith. What a show! I had to laugh, though. Those guys haven't changed a bit. Gene Simmons is still breathing fire and they still destroy the instruments at the end of the show. What a kick!

Yep, buried deep within the lyrics there were some very moving songs released in the 80s. Cheers, girls!

momesq1991,

Age is just a number and a state of mind to me. I will turning 34 but I feel 24. Kiss is supposed to play again this year and I hope to see it!! They rock!! Yes, there were some awesome songs and music in the 80's.

Hey, Mo...stop playing the old lady routine....lol. I just turned 36 years old in March...so that puts me in between you and Midnight (does that make me the Middle Child? Christ, like I don't have enough issues....lol).

As for headbanger...oh, yeah. Aerosmith, Ratt, Cinderella, Metallica, Slayer....lol, just to name a few. Just a couple of summers ago, I went to a Tool concert and it was probably one of the BEST shows I had seen. My older fuddy-duddy sister once asked me "when are you going to grow up and stop listening to that music" and I said "IF growing up means that I have to give up the things that I love...then I'm NEVER growing up!" Besides, I now have a new connection with my teenagers as they listen to bands such as Finger 11, Bad Charlotte, Linkin Park (their friends think I'm "cool" too...which just cracks me up). The funny thing is, my 16 yr old LOVES '80's rock....and when I hear her listening to it, it just cracks me up.

keep on rockin'

Hey there Midnight (ok, I'm NEVER gonna get this paper of mine done....lol!)

Winger? dear Lord....I'm "Heading for a Heartbreak" honey...LMAO. Gosh, Whitesnake, almost forgot about them. Motley Crue? oh,yes...I've done my share of shouting at the devil....LOL. Can't forget about Def Leppard and Bon Jovi, either.

dharma, who's going through her closet looking for her old spandex pants, backstage passes, and hairspray for the BIG HAIR. (somehow, I think that spandex pants won't look good on a 30 something woman who's bore 4 children....hmm....)

dharmgurl,

Didn't you know that I'm Bon Jovi's future wife...he just doesn't know it yet!! LOL!! I had the hair, the clothes, the music. Def Leppard is one of my all-time favorites. I won't tell you when "Pour Some Sugar On Me" was played during my A!! :) Anyway, hope you got to get your paper done and I'm sure you'd look great in your spandex :)!!

You guys are cracking me up. I remember the 80's fondly. I listened to a slightly different style of 80's music though. REM, Eddie Brickel, Police, Duran Duran, Depech Mode, Cure but I also liked a lot of the classic rock. Pink Floyd, Yes, Greatfull Dead, Led Zepplin. Now I listen to a little bit of everything. Eclectic stuff like Portishead and Heather Nova and some of the new stuff. Dido, Evanescence, Chemical Brothers, the list goes on.

I think music defines our moods. It might even be the other way around. The music may influence our mood.

I can barely listen to any music anymore. Even the BeeGee's lol

Thanks for the trip down memory lane after all laughter is the best medicine.

totalknowledge,

Glad to entertain you. Laughter is the best medicine, and if it brought a smile to your face then I feel like I did something good today for someone.

I agree with you about not being able to listen to much lately, including the BeeGees...LOL!! "How Deep Is Your Love' was sent over to me through email and put on a mixed tape my MM gave to me, so I just had a great laugh as well! LOL!!

I know I'm older than most of the gals on here! My son is 22 and I had him when I was 22. I was the high school water polo team mom (exdh was the coach) through half of the 80's and the early 90's.

Now, I listened to country music most of that time but I do recognize most of the bands and some of the songs you've all been talking about.
